Yogi orders creation of additional dedicated Covid hospitals in Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the district authorities and health officials on Friday to set up additional dedicated hospitals, in addition to MLN Medical College, to treat Covid patients in Prayagraj, in order to ensure an efficient Covid-19 management system.

The CM told officials at the ICCC (Integrated Command & Control Centre) during a Covid evaluation meeting that they should increase testing and contact tracing in order to contain the disease. He also ordered officials to make obligatory checking of people arriving from other states. Similarly, the containment zone system should be strictly enforced.

Meanwhile, the debate over vaccine stock and the fear of its shortage created a rush among recipients above 45 years who made a beeline for a jab at the vaccination centres in the city on Friday. Due to a shortage of vaccine, Nodal Officer (vaccination) Dr Teerath Lal said that vaccination was carried out at 34 sites in the city on Wednesday and Thursday instead of 97 sites. He also mentioned that the department would receive a new shipment of vaccine on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, and that vaccination will resume at all 97 locations.

When asked about the vaccine supply, the officials of the health department clarified that a new consignment of vaccine will reach the city by Saturday evening or Sunday morning and then vaccination will be conducted at all 97 sites. On Wednesday and Thursday, vaccination was underway at only 34 sites compared to 97 sites before due to a shortage of vaccines.

Apart from the 11 vaccination sites in the urban parts witnessing a heavy rush of recipients, scores of beneficiaries also moved towards the rural-based 20 community health centres to get inoculated. In the past five days (from April 3-8), over 48,000 beneficiaries were vaccinated at different sites in the city.

On Friday, vaccination was conducted on 33 sites (one less than Wednesday and Thursday) including 13 sites in urban and 20 sites in rural community health centres.

Cleanliness and sanitization campaigns, according to the CM, should be implemented successfully in both rural and urban areas. He urged officials to step up vaccination efforts in order to make the 'Tika Utsav' case, which will take place between April 11 and 14, a huge success. The CM also visited the SRN hospital's Covid ward and inquired about the general ward and OPD services. He requested that officials conduct RTPCR testing (60 to 70%) in Prayagraj district and make efforts to increase the number of tests to 20,000 per day in the days to come.
